Learning Target: Solving Simple Equations

"Balance is the key to solving any equation."

17+x=23  The way to solve this equation is to first, subtract 17 form 17 to make it zero. x=23 Then, subtract 17 from 23 to make it 6.  x=6 is what you end up with. When you have only the variable left you have the answer. "The goal is to get the variable by its self."

Heres another example!

    13+x=30

subtract 13 from 13

    0+x=30

subtract 13 from 30

    x=17

this is the answer

Eight wins, Eight losses, Eight arrests

                                        default

The Cincinnati Bengals ended their season on a loss to their division rivals The Pittsburgh Steelers to go 8-8 and miss the playoffs by a game. They had a lot of problems on and off the field this year, but one of the biggest problems was that eight of their players were arrested in 2006. Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner, was even thinking that since they had so many arrests that they weren't allow to go to the playoffs. All of those arrests could've been one of the reasons the Bengals didn't make the playoffs.

One player that hurt the Bengals and himself when he was arrested was Linebacker Odell Thurman. In 2005, Odell had a great year with five interceptions, five forced fumbles, and a defencive touchdown. When he was arrested it took a great player out of the Bengals defence. First, he failed a drug test so he was suspended for four games. Then, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated during the start of the Bengals 2006 season. He was suspended for a year and probably won't be on the Bengals next year. Then Cornerback Deltha O'Neal was arrested for the same thing, but was only suspended for one game. In the 2005 season the Bengals went 11-6 with Odell in. In the 2006 season the Bengals went 8-8 without him. There was a big difference.

Then there was Wide Receiver Chris Henry. He had a great year on the field with nine touchdowns and six hundred and five receiving yards, but off the field was a different story. He got arrested three times, but he didn't really get punished for any of it except from Head Coach Marvin Lewis. Lewis took Henry out of a couple of games even though it helped to have him in with T.J. and Chad. When Henry wasn't in the Bengals went 2-3. When Henry was in they went 6-5.

After all that The Bengals still had a chance to make the playoffs, but blew it in the last three games. They just had to win one of their three games, but didn't. In the first game against The Colts, they didn't do anything good and they lost by about twenty points. In the second against The Broncos, they missnaped a extra point with a minute left and loose by one. Finally, the very disappointing game against The Steelers, they missed a field goal and lost in over time by a touchdown. Bengals' fans hope they won't be as bad on and off the field.     WHO DEY!

Scribe Post #3

Today's Learning Target

Finding the Least Common Multiple (LCM) using Prime Factorization

Example

        12             40

         ^              ^

       4*3             2*20

       ^                    ^

                           2*10

                               ^

      2*2                  2*5
      /----/-----------/----/

    (2)*(2)*3           2*(2)*(2)*5

           ^                  ^

              3*5*2*2*2=120

Lesson

First, you make a factor tree for each number. Then, you make a prime factorization under the factor tree for each number. Next, you find the common  factors between the two prime factorizations. For each pair of common factors you find, you eliminate one or combine the pair to make the same number. After you do that, you multiply the rest of the factors together to make the Least Common Multiple (LCM). Finally, you have the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the two numbers. To check if you are right make sure that the number is greater than both of the original numbers. Make sure that the number is a multiple of both of the original numbers. Also the prime factorization has to contain the two original numbers.

Scibe Post Number Two

Learning Target

How to find the circumference of a circle.

Lesson

First, you find the diameter of the object. Then, you do diameter mutiplied by π. π equals 3.14. Next, find the answer. Finally, you have the circumference of your object.

Example

3.14*13=40.82 or 3.14*10=31.4

Scibe Post

Learning Target

Estamating sums and differences using decimals.

Example

45.67+56.37=? Rounds to 46+56=102

55.23-23.485=? Rounds to 55-23=32

Lesson

First, you round the decimals to the nearest whole number. If the decimal is 5 or higher round up. If the decimal is 4 or lower round down. Then, solve the problem. Finally, you have the answer.
