Learning how to use the Metric System
This system can be fun and basic. Though, we use the Cuustomary System the Metric System is still manditory to know.
This system consist of...
Length, Mass, & Capacity. These are the units of the Metric System. The base units are meter, gram, and liter. Beyond these are kilo (thousand), deci (tenth), centi (hundredth), & milli (thousandth). To make this less complex look at the example below:
Example:
Below is the unit length. Since the base unit is meter, add the prefix to meter. Here are the abbrevations: km=kilometer, m=meter, dm=decimeter, cm=centimeter, and mm=milimeter.
Ex. 1
/1,000 /10 /10 /10
km m dm cm mm This is all compared to the meter(m). A mm is one-thousandth of a meter, x1000 x10 x10 x10 cm is one-hundredth, dm is one-tenth, and km is one-thousand meters.
Here is another example:
Ex. 2
5000mm= 500cm
50 dm
5m
Math Quote:
"Do not worry about your difficulties in mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater." -Albert Einstein
These are all the people who DO NOT use th Metric System.
