4/16-Solving Simple Eguatons

Lesson: Balance is the key to solving equations.

y + 12 = -27   "The goal is to get the variable by itself."

To do that you must subtact 12 from each number.(Not including the varilable) You end up with a problem looking like this: y = 39. I got that by subracting 12 from each number. Then after you do that you bring the y down and the = sign and the other number and you get the answer y=39. I'll show you.

1. y + 12 = -27

2. 12-12=0

3.-27-12=39

you end up with this:y=39 that is the answer.

Hears a nother.

1. x + 6 =24

2. 6-6=0

3. 24-6=18

you end up with this: x=18

Madagascar's Hinden Treasures

Madagascar is a large island off the southeastern coast of Africa. When you think about Madagascar you think of lemurs. I am going to show you some of the other creatures that live on the island besides lemurs.

Chameleons

default default

Let's start with the chameleon. There are a ton of them, but you can't always see them. That is because they blend in with their surroundings and some are nocturnal. Another reason why they are very hard to locate is because when they walk they rock back in forth at the same time as nearby leaves making them look like leaves. The one on the left is called a Parson's Chameleon. It can move both of its eyes in different directions at the same time. The chameleon on the right changes its color to its benefit when it is mating or defending territory. But it does not change color to match its background.

Frogs

default default

Next let's look for the frogs. The frogs on the left are called Golden Mantella frogs. The picture shows them mating. On the right shows a picture of another variation of Mantella frogs. They both have toxic skin and their bright colors warn their predators of the poison.

Insects

Now I am going to tell you about one of the bizarre insects of Madagascar. This one is called a stick bug. It is called this crazy name because when it is on a tree and it is being hunted it takes the appearance of a small stick or a branch. Therefore, it is hidden from its hunter. I think it is one of the coolest bugs in the world because it seams invisible to all that search for it.
